Henderson Bishop Semi-Finalists

It was semi-final heartache for the Greenacres squad at the 2025 Henderson Bishop Competition in Dumfries on Thursday 24th February, after narrowly losing to eventual winners, Team Huntly (Dumfries) in a final end shoot out.

Stewarton Heather members Fiona Reid, Sarah Reid and Janice Shepherd, Sorn’s Eilidh Templeton and Galston Haymouth member Barbara Morton (skip) represented Greenacres at the prestigious Women’s competition after winning the qualifying event in January.

Cuthbertson League Round-up 2024

The final night of the Cuthbertson league promised so much, but in the end it never delivered the drama the pundits had predicted! The top three all won their games and with it Davie Mundell secured the title. With this, Davie completed an unprecedented treble – so congratulations to the team of Davie Mundell, Malcolm Noble, John Wilson & Alan Mitchell (Super Sub Billy Smith).
The two remaining promotion places were secured by Wallace Gilbert & Andy Muir.
At the other end of the table is where we witnessed the only movement of the night, father of the year Jim Kirkwood gubbed his son Craig, escaping relegation at Craig’s expense.
Dougie Reid put in a valiant effort to beat the drop only to lose in the last end against Andy Muir, as a result Dougie along with Iain Dunlop and Craig Kirkwood were all relegated.

Corsehill Cup Points 2024

We held our annual Points competition on 15th December at Greenacres.

There was nothing to separate the top 2 after 8 disciplines. William Smith and Alan Smith were tied, however with Alan scoring more on the return sheet, this meant he took the honors and the Celebrations!

The Tom Reid Handicap Trophy was won by Stuart Smith after a suitably flamboyant display!

Prizes presented by President David Reid

Cuthbertson League Roundup

The Cuthbertson league is now complete and what a league it was!

The final night was filled with high drama, upsets, crushing lows and here’s how it unfolded.

At the top of the table, only one out of the top three that occupied the promotion places at the beginning of the nights play won. Team Mundell would be crowned Champions after the nights play, winning the title, it wasn’t plain sailing for the Big Man fae Bowes Rigg as he would only secure the Cuthbertson Trophy on shots finishing two clear of Wallace Gilbert. He was up against Craig Kirkwood who was in the mood to play as he and his team were chasing the final promotion place.
It was a classic game of two halves with Davie taking a 4-1 lead after 3 and his devious plan of putting his good friend Smithers in the opposing team seemed to be working a treat. But unlike Nancy, Kirky would not let Alan spoil his night as he fought back in the second half to secure a 9-5 victory with Davie only scoring one shot in the remaining five ends. Davie looked lost as he struggled to keep focus but that’s not surprising as his third Jim played most of the night with a limp sharks Fin on his head. Craig Kirkwood would secure the third promotion place, leapfrogging Andy Muir after his surprising defeat to Dougie Reid.

The result of Wallace Gilbert Vs Hugh Reid would have ramifications at both ends of the table and that certainly turned out to be the case. Hugh doing his bit for women in sport had surrounded himself with some of the clubs finest female talent and for six ends they were unstoppable, but unfortunately for Shug and his Sheila’s the last two ends didn’t go to plan. After losing a 3 in the seventh, he trailed by 1 going up the last with the hammer, Hugh was now in relegation trouble but a peel or better would’ve have kept him clear of relegation. It came down to his and Wallace’s last stones, Wallace with championship aspirations still burning bright he would attempt a shot to lie 5 and that would’ve pinched the title from team Mundell. It wasn’t to be as he found a straight bit of ice (he played it wide) and the stone would end up nosing his own stone that was shot to lie shot again, this would leave Hugh an open hit to secure the peel but his stone found an unnaturally swingy piece of ice (he played it tight) and would eventually nose his own shot to give up the steal of one and end up relegated.

Andy Muir missed out on promotion after his team were surprisingly gubbed by Dougie Reid’s quartet (no one was more surprised than Dougie and his team). Dougie/Houdini needed a big win along with Hugh getting beat to stand any chance of avoiding relegation. Well people, it certainly is a magical time of the year with Dougie avoiding relegation after playing like Randy Ferbey on the final night as he secured a 12-1 win after 7 ends.

In the battle of the bottom two, James Whiteford would secure his first win of the season with a close 6-4 victory over Billy Jackson.

Another Highly competitive Cuthbertson League and congratulations to the Team of Davie Mundell, Jim Kirkwood, George Davidson and John Wilson on winning the title.

Cuthbertson League Update

The Cuthbertson League is now entering squeaky bum time, skips are looking at the fixtures and realizing that there’s only three games, or in some cases two games left in the season! Again, another highly competitive league. This is the state of play:

Promotion Places: Currently sitting top of the tree is David Mundell with his ensemble on 10 points. With 5 wins from 6, he is in fine form and he sits 2 points clear of young guns Wallace Gilbert in 2nd and Craig Kirkwood in 3rd. Although crucially Wallace does have a game in hand on his compatriots and with 4 wins from 5, he’s also firing. Like the teams above him, Craig’s team has only lost 1 game but like so many in this league he has drawn a couple of fixtures. With Kirky on Maternity leave, Big Eeky steered the rink to victory in their last outing.

Midtable: Well if your name’s not Reid you ain’t getting in! With Gavin, Dougie and Hugh all of the Reid persuasion locked on 5 points apiece, along with last year’s golden boy Andy Muir in 7th, 7 shots separates the 4 teams. Gavin sits 4th with a superior goal difference but again has played 1 more game than the rest. Gav crucially gubbed Dougie Reid on his last outing and leapfrogged Dougie, Shug and Andy in a breathtaking movement. In all fairness Dougie’s team were very unlucky on the night as Gavin’s third Hugh Guthrie wasn’t available to play. Hugh and Dougie will face off on Sunday night with a win for either team putting them clear of the relegation places and still in the hunt for promotion.

Relegation Zone: Andy Muir is struggling to repeat last season’s heroics but is only in the relegation zone as a result of being 1 shot worse off than Hugh. Billy Jackson sits second bottom with 1 win from 5, a vastly experienced team but just not getting the results. James Whiteford sits bottom with a 100% record this season! Consistency is key and unfortunately for James they’ve been very consistent. Still the opportunity for safety, but a lot to do.

This Weeks Fixtures:

  • Billy Jackson vs Gavin Reid
  • Andrew Muir vs James Whiteford
  • Hugh Reid vs Douglas Reid
  • Craig Kirkwood vs Wallace Gilbert

Glazert Cup Pairs Competition

On the 26th of February the club’s pairs competition took place with 12 dynamic duos looking to become the dream double act.

After the group stages Alex Wilson and Craig Kirkwood would top section A and would play section B runners up Willie Smith and Gus Erskine in the first semifinal. In the other semifinal section B winners Stuart Smith and Janice Shepherd would play runners up from section A – David Reid and Greg Matthew.

After the dust settled in both semis, it was the teams from section B that prevailed. Stuart and Janice would now play Willie and Gus in the championship final, after meeting in the group stages in a game before, which John joked that if they peeled, they would both progress from the group first and second. Well people, lo and behold an hour later the game finished 2-2 with the teams exchanging single shots in each of the ends. In a tight game Willie and Gus edged it, with Stuart unfortunately missing an angled raise to take it to a draw the shot. Congratulations to Willie and Gus and commiserations to Stuart and Janice.

In the low road final, it was a repeat of last year’s final with Dougie Reid and Andy Currans taking on John Craig and Holly Smith. John would get revenge over Dougie for last year’s draw the shot defeat. Thanks to Davie Mundell for organizing the 24 athletes and Davie Reid for keeping everything ticking along on the day.
